Branch Manager – Island Savings Brentwood Bay

Mark has been with Island Savings Credit Union for over 13 years before taking over the helm as Branch Manager of the local Brentwood Bay branch in January 2008. In his first year, Mark and his team won Island Savings’ Branch of the Year recognition. Providing high levels of member service, having knowledgeable staff working together for creative solutions, and always following through on member commitments, has been the cornerstone of making Mark and his team successful on the Peninsula.

Mark has also been a 10 year volunteer with Junior Achievement Vancouver Island and most recently spent 4 years sitting on the Regional Advisory’s Board. Mark believes strongly in volunteering and giving back to the community in which he lives and works. He is excited to be helping the Chamber in his new role, as he believes the Chamber plays an important part in shaping the community in which we all work and live.


 

Tim Flater – 1st Vice President

Tim was the owner of Seaside Times Magazine, which has established itself as the leading monthly publication dedicated to the people, places, events and businesses of the Saanich Peninsula. He recently sold the publication to Sue Hodgson. Tim is now in business with Knickerbockers

Tim’s past corporate experience includes: Domino’s Pizza in California and Michigan and owning six locations in Winnipeg; Pizza Hut; Starbucks Coffee; Blockbuster Video and Future Shop in Toronto. Prior to moving back to Victoria where he was born, Tim was the president of TMF Consulting. Tim is excited to be working with the Saanich Peninsula Chamber of Commerce and doing his part to help this great place we all call home grow.

 


 

Ian Hennigar- 2nd Vice President
Senior Manager – Panorama Recreation Centre

Ian is the Administrator of the Peninsula Recreation Commission that provides a wide variety of recreational, arts and cultural programming through the Panorama Recreation Facility, Greenglade Community Centre, Central Saanich Cultural Centre and the North Saanich Middle School plus 12 other smaller facilities on the peninsula. The Commission will provide services to more than 600,000 visits in 2010.

Ian has been a Board member since 2008.

 


 

John Treleaven – Past President
Principal – The Treleaven Consulting Group Ltd.        

In August 2005 John established The Treleaven Consulting Group Ltd., located in Sidney, to provide international marketing and policy advice to public and private sector clients. Prior to moving to Sidney he was President and CEO of the Saskatchewan Trade and Export Partnership (STEP), a P3 organization providing market research and export services to 260 Saskatchewan companies. Mr. Treleaven began his career in the Canadian Trade Commissioner Service in 1968. Postings included Sao Paulo, San Juan, Puerto Rico, London, San Jose, Costa Rica, Hong Kong, Tokyo, and Ambassador to the Philippines. In Ottawa he served in a variety of senior positions in Foreign Affairs and International Trade.        

John has been on the Board of Directors since 2007 and is a member of the Executive Committee.     

 


 

Wendy EversonWendy Everson – Secretary
Lawyer – Wendy L. Everson Law

Wendy has her own law practice in Sidney and has been a member of the Chamber since 2008. She practices in various areas of law including Real Estate, Business Law and Wills and Estate Planning.

Wendy was called to the Province of British Columbia Bar in 1999 and the Province of Manitoba Bar in 2003. In addition to participating as a Director of the Chamber, she also volunteers as a committee member on the Saanich Peninsula Foundation Society, the Victoria Foundation, and in various capacities with the Canadian Bar Association.

Elaine is a partner with Flader Hale Hughesman, Chartered Accountants in Sidney. She holds a C.A. (Chartered Accountant) designation and loves working closely with clients to help them with all aspects of their businesses, in addition to the accounting and tax pieces of the puzzle.

Elaine became a board member in 2009 and is currently the Chamber’s Treasurer. She also sits as the Treasurer on the Board of the Saanich Peninsula Foundation Society.

Ian Brown - Director

Ian Brown is Managing Diretor of Tower Premium Woodworking – a manufacturer of commercial and residential cabinets and millwork. Born and raised in the Fraser Valley, Ian attended the U of A – BA (Econ), MBA – and apart from a 7 year stint in the UK, worked in that province in Management Consulting and Manufacturing. A North Saanich resident since 2007, Ian joined the board in 2010 to support the Chamber’s Workforce Housing initiative and currently serves as Director for Economic Development.

Ron Heal – Director
General Manager & CEO - Peninsula Co-op

Ron is CEO & General Manager for Peninsula Co-op. In his almost 13 years with Peninsula Co-op, Ron served as Controller and Chief Financial Officer from 1999 to 2011 until his appointment to General Manager in March 2011 and his most recent appointment to CEO & General Manager effective April 1, 2012.

For substantially all of Ron’s career, he has been involved with successful and progressive co-operative organizations in addition to Peninsula Co-op, including Pacific Coast Savings Credit Union and Island Farms Dairies Co-op. Ron earned his Certified Management Accountant designation in 1996 and has attended executive education programs on leadership development, strategic planning and retailing management at the Banff Centre, Babson College and University of Victoria. Ron has served on several other Boards of Directors including: Peninsula Co-op, KidSport Victoria, Greater Victoria Savings Credit Union and GVSCU Legacy Foundation.

Art Finlayson established his British Columbia Architectural Practice in Victoria in 1989 after a very successful 22 years in Calgary and Toronto.     Art has associated himself with Silvia Bonet the firms design Architect from Argentina. Together they have established an exciting Architectural Practice with projects ranging from Institutional, Industrial, Commercial, Multiple Housing to Residential Houses.

Art has been involved with the Chamber of Commerce for over 23 years with both the Victoria Chamber where he was on the board of directors for 6 years and now with the Peninsula Chamber Board for the past 5 years.

 Art is proud to have been involved with the growth of the Saanich Peninsula and to see it become one of Victoria’s most desireable areas to live and work.

Victoria Airport Authority

Terry is the Director Marketing & Community Relations for the Victoria Airport Authority. He has 28 years of senior management experience at both Vancouver and Victoria airports. Terry holds a Masters Degree in Public Administration from the University of Victoria. His current duties include property management, land development, new air service development, project management and community relations.

Terry has been a Director of the Chamber for a total of 8 years and was Chamber President for 2008.

Doug Taylor - Executive Director

Doug is the Executive Director of the Saanich Peninsula Chamber of Commerce. In addition he is the Managing Director of Pacific Business Intelligence Ltd. (PBI). Established in 1983, PBI provides professional consulting services in the core areas of international business development, strategic market planning, market research, international marketing and corporate guidance. PBI has undertaken assignments in over thirty countries in Europe, Asia, North America, the Middle East and the Caribbean for private industry, governments and international organizations. Doug has successfully operated the firm with bases at various times in Canada, the U.K. and Singapore.

 In addition to working at the Chamber Doug is also an Adjunct Professor in the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business at the University of Victoria.

 Doug holds a B.A. in Economics from Dalhousie University in Canada, an M.Sc. in Public International Law from the University of Edinburgh in Scotland and a Diploma from the Canadian Securities Institute. He also holds the designation of Certified International Trade Professional, C.I.T.P.

 


Municipal Council Representatives

 

Ted Daly, North Saanich -

Ted is the liaison to the Chamber appointed by the District of North Saanich. Ted was recently elected to the North Saanich council in November 2011. Ted previously served on the North Saanich council from 1999 to 2002 as a Councillor and from 2002 to 2008 as Mayor. Prior to that Ted served on the Town of Sidney council from 1990 to 1999. Ted has a strong interest in Chamber matters and is anxious to support the Chamber in its endeavors.


 

 

Mervyn Lougher-Goodey, Sidney -

Mervyn was recently re-elected to his second term by Town of Sidney. Prior to his election Mervyn was involved in the Sidney and Peninsula areas in diverse activities ranging from a founding Director of the Saanich Peninsula Health Association; a ten year plus volunteer with Beacon Community Services, a past vice chair of the Victoria Airport Authority Board to past chair of the CRD Water Advisory Committee. Among his Councillor duties he was recently elected to be chair of the CRD Regional Water Commission. A graduate civil engineer Mervyn, enjoyed a rewarding career with the Canadian Armed Forces. Mervyn although new to the Chamber is eager to learn about Chamber matters and goals.
