Saanich Peninsula Chamber of Commerce
The Saanich Peninsula Chamber of Commerce has an opportunity for a qualified individual interested in becoming the Executive Director of the Chamber’s growing membership base. Reporting to the President, the Executive Director is responsible for managing the day to day operation of the Chamber and Visitor Centres, managing member retention and growth, and liaising with all three municipalities.
The Saanich Peninsula is home to some 1960 businesses supporting a population of 35,000 people within the three municipalities of Sidney, Central Saanich and North Saanich. Entrepreneurship thrives in this community, which is the air and sea transportation hub for Greater Victoria and the South Island. The Peninsula is home to a wide array of entrepreneurial businesses including those engaged in tourism, marine resource, technology, distribution and warehousing, wineries, culinary tourism, sports, recreation, and aviation. From the Saanich Peninsula companies export goods and services to the global marketplace.
The selected applicant will require an exceptional ability to:
• Execute a strategic plan set out by the Board of Directors
• Operate the business of the Chamber, including but not limited to, staff management, preparation of budgets and regular review of financial results, all the while maintaining the entrepreneurial spirit mirroring that of our member organizations
• Develop and implement a membership growth and retention strategy
• Act as the spokesperson for the Chamber when appropriate
• Maintain internal and external communications of the Chamber fully utilizing web based tools and resources
• Provide support to the Board of Directors and board committees
• Oversee planning of various events during the year, always seeking to inject new ideas and innovation into each event
• Oversee the management of the Tourist Information Centres on the Peninsula
The successful candidate will have the following:
• Minimum 3-5 years business experience, or equivalent not-for-profit experience
• Proven experience in the execution of sales plans and in the over-achieving of results
• Above average knowledge of financial management
• Proven track record in managing a team
• Experience in public speaking
• Experience with working with all levels of government and committees
• Experience working with and liaising with diverse interest groups
• Advocacy for economic well-being and development on the Peninsula
• Experience with Microsoft Office and other related software
• Experience in various social media platforms
