They create jobs, pay taxes, fill commercial real estate facilities, and contribute to their community through their leadership and numerous contributions that enrich the regions’ quality of life.
Support and service-sector businesses exist in an increasingly competitive economic environment. In today’s vastly connect information age, many firms can outsource to freelancers, consultants, and other support firms through the Internet with ease. This means that local web-design firms are not only competing with each other, they are competing with firms the world over. The also presents opportunities for innovative firms as well as presents a situation where small firms can collaborate to compete globally.
The Saanich Peninsula Chamber of Commerce aims to work with service sector firms to improve their competitiveness.
The Chamber is exploring the following activities along with partners:
- More frequent quality learning and networking opportunities that enable service professionals to generate leads, build their reputation, and learn new skills that serve as a catalyst for success;
- Launch an online “Chamber Market” for the Saanich Peninsula as a catalyst and online venue for the Shop Local Movement and as a local and cost-effective alternative to Groupon (and other coupon services). This enables collaboration and communication of services to local customers;
- Work with local firms towards collaborations. For example, communicating Provincial, National, and other large procurement opportunities to multiple firms to encourage collaborative bidding.
