Period Fine Bindings

I am a master of conservation, restoration and traditional bookbinding. I founded my business Period Fine Bindings in 1983 and practice more than 300 styles of traditional bookbinding from 10thC to 19thC and have lectured all over the world.

All of the materials I use are made by my own hands including veg tanning the skins. Each skin is tanned organically and takes 2 years to cure. The dyes are made from plant extracts and go through a fermentation process for several months and are then made light fast. I hand marble papers to exact period designs. I developed a range of non aggressive formulae for the safe removal of aggressive stains without the use of any chemical application and I am considered to be the world authority on "foxing" as I developed the only non chemical treatment for each variant spore.

I build and restore private investment libraries for a global clientele and I have a rare bookshop and bindery on Oak Bay Avenue and am open daily to the public. I regularly put new projects on facebook for overseas clients to follow the restoration processes of their commissions
