The Abbeyfield Society In 1956, a unique concept for retirement originated in England to foster safe housing for independent older people who were seeking companionship within a caring affordable environment. Currently there are hundreds of Abbeyfield houses located in many countries around the world. In 1987, St. Andrew’s Abbeyfield was the first house established in Canada. Like all Abbeyfield Houses, it is a non-profit organization, managed by a volunteer board of directors. It is truly a home within a home. What is Abbeyfield? ABBEYFIELD is an international society dedicated to providing older people with affordable, companionable, secure housing in a family-type household within their local community. St. Andrew’s Abbeyfield House is a spacious house with large comfortable living areas. There are nine bed-sitting rooms each with a private 2-piece ensuite. Residents bring their own furniture and create their own personal space in their room. Each room has a pleasant outdoor patio area. There is a beautiful back garden for everyone to enjoy
